CHAPTER 13

ROYCE

Royce started towards the closet and then hesitated. If she wanted the full experience, he should take her down to the dungeon floor. There were two problems with that: the club wasn’t open tonight, and he didn’t particularly want to share her, especially this first time, with anyone else.

He placed his hand on her head. “Are you comfortable?”

“Surprisingly so.”

“I want to go downstairs and get my kit. I would like it if you remained in place, but if you’re uncomfortable, I want you to go sit on the bed, and when I return you can get back in position.”

“Yes, Sir, and thank you for thinking of my comfort.”

He snorted. Her books had given her the bare basics, but he had to admit she was trying. He feared a willing and trying Camille might prove to be utterly irresistible. Royce turned and left the room, ensuring that the automatic lock engaged. He waited for the elevator, which seemed to be inordinately slow.

Finally, he reached the ground floor and headed into the men’s locker room. He was a bit surprised to find both Seth and King there.

“I told you. That’s a hundred bucks you owe me, and I’m still telling Samantha you bet against true love,” said Seth with an enormous grin.

“Just take the money and leave my wife out of it. And I didn’t bet against true love; I just didn’t think he would fall so fast,” countered King.

“I am not in love,” said Royce.

“Yeah, yeah,” said Seth. “That’s what they all say. I’ll tell you what, though, I will never take a protectee into that room. There’s some weird mojo that goes on in that room.”

Royce ignored them and changed into his leathers, grabbing his street clothes to take back up to the room. “I’m going to lock us down for the night. I’d appreciate one of you laughing hyenas making a final sweep of the building.”

“I’ll take care of it,” said King. “I’m not sure I’d trust that grinning fool to do anything.”

“Then gentlemen, I’m going to go hit a couple of pubs and see if I can recruit us some more gorgeous subs. See you both in the morning, and I hope you both have fabulous nights,” called Seth, waving his hand as he left the locker room.

When he was sure Seth had gone, Royce turned back to King. “I don’t know whether I should tell you to tell me I’m a fool, or to go for it.”

“How about I just tell you the truth?”

“That’ll do.”

“I think your Camille—and let’s not fuck around about whether she is or is not yours—is in a dangerous situation and is probably feeling pretty vulnerable. The same could be said of Samantha when I met her. I’m sure there are a shit ton of people who think I took advantage of her, but she and I both know I didn’t. I stepped into her life when she needed me and that simply amplified our feelings and the speed with which things moved to their natural conclusion.
